In Part 5 we take a glimpse at the lineups for the American League Central Division teams: Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians.

After reviewing this division, only one team had a very similar opening day lineup to the optimized lineup: the Chicago White Sox. For years the White Sox were regarded as one of the lowest saber-friendly teams in the entire major leagues, but perhaps they’re moving away from that. As per the theme in these pieces, the top all-around hitter from each time wound up in the leadoff spot for the optimized lineups, Cabrera, Abreu, Gordon, Mauer, and Santana (Brantley is probably the best hitter on the Indians though).
